Old World Painting
— Miles Hall
From friday february 23 to saturday march 31 2018
Preview friday february 23 2018 at 18:00

For this exhibition, the artist choses to work with an oil painting based on mineral pigments on a linen canvas, each color referring to Piero della Francesca’s palette. Citing this major Italian Renaissance artist, author of Arezzo’s frescoes (1452-1466), Miles Hall returns to the materiality of painting, rather than its “subject”. He questions the visual and haptic dimension of the painted surface, the visibility of the weft under the very thin layers of oil. As the artist explains, “a painting is not an image but a thing ... a thing that exists in space as an object with a surface and a tactile dimension.”
