Contre jour
— Clara Bryon
From saturday january 12 to sunday february 3 2019
Preview friday january 11 2019 at 18:30

At the beginning of 2019, the Espace Saint-Ravy welcomes painter Clara Bryon. The exhibition «Contre jour» presents the works she has made during her first two years of research on architectural light. His paintings, like windows, are at the border between real and unreal, hyperrealism and abstract - a silent space where the sensitive intrudes.

The title of the exhibition instantly evokes light, which has a prominent place in the artist’s painting, but which is not the central subject as the artist explains :
«The search for light is one of the most visible parts of my work but not the most important, it is only a «tool». What matters most to me is to reveal the delicacy of the built elements and to show the richness of the emotions they can bring.
For example, creating a wall with an aggressive and sharp stop but softening it with a background that is little discerned but reassuring. Or, make a menacing, dark interior and soothe it with a reflection of light that goes through the wall and softens the scene.
I try to recreate all the sensations/emotions that I feel myself facing these objects that can be threatening, comforting, soft, sharp, protective, enveloping, strong, simple, harsh, etc."
