[Exposition Faire avec] Rencontre avec l’artiste Éric Baudelaire et Marcella Lista, conservatrice au Centre Pompidou
— Éric Baudelaire
On saturday january 18 2020 at 16:00

Faire avec [To Do With] includes an exceptional revival of the Après [After] project, conceived for the Centre Pompidou in 2017 curated by Marcella Lista, assisted by Alexandra Delage. It was the fruit of research spanning several years. Central to this project is the film Also Known As Jihadi (2017) which sketches the portrait of a French youth who chose to go to Syria. As the artist has explained : &#8220 ;The film does not show a character. It tries instead to trace his story through a quasi-methodical auscultation of the places where he lived, the landscapes he inhabited&#8221 ;. He follows Aziz’s path from Vitry-sur-Seine to the criminal courthouse, investigates a reality that goes beyond a single event. It is a reality saturated with interpretations, yet its complexity is resistant to understanding. This film is connected with other artists’ past and present works from the collections of the Centre Pompidou and few other institutions : from Constantin Brancusi to Jean-Luc Godard, from Rosemarie Trockel to Andrei Monastyrski, Jo Ractliffe and Lawrence Abu Hamdan. Facing the stupefaction produced by terrorism, Après offers some historical perspective and a thoughtful, slower pace, in opposition to the accelerated time of events and frantic news cycles. Far from the din of media coverage of such issues, an underlying question runs through this project : what can art do ? The artist suggests pondering it through an &#8220 ;incomplete, arbitrary and intuitive&#8221 ; abecedary that guides the arrangement of the exhibition : A for Architecture, C for Commemorate, E for École [School], J for Justice, O for Oh my country !&#8230 ;

In order to come back to the genesis of this project as well as its developments, the CRAC proposes a Q&A with Eric Baudelaire and Marcella Lista on Saturday, January 18, at 4 :00 pm.
All publics, free entry.
