FRAC - Fonds régional d’art contemporain Occitanie Montpellier

Date of creation : 1982
Status : Association
Type of organisation : Institution - Collection
In charge : Emmanuel Latreille, Director, Patricia Carette, President
Founded in 1982, the Frac Occitanie Montpellier is a public contemporary art collection, which now brings together over 1,300 pieces created by over 400 artists. Representing the diversity of the issues raised by artistic creation since the 60s, the collection belongs to the Occitanie / Pyrénées-Méditerranée Région and is mainly intended to be exhibited in venues throughout the region, to provide the general public, whether informed or not, with the guarantee of a professional access to present-day artwork.
Educating the public as it comes into contact with the works in the Frac Collection is the fundamental mission of the Visitor and Educational Services : guided tours, meetings with artists, storytelling, Wednesday workshops, history of art courses - such are the many strategies that can provide everyone with an opportunity to discover and understand art. These activities are proposed at the Frac, as well as everywhere in the region : each year, therefore, over forty exhibitions are organised in the region in partnership with associations, local authorities, and the National Education, in addition to the many loans to national and international institutions, for monographic exhibitions of famous artists, or as part of the international dissemination of French collections organised by the grouping of Fracs (Platform).

Featured artists : Mathieu K. Abonnenc, John Baldessari, Sophie Calle, Rémi Dall’Aglio, Fred Eerdekens, Seamus Farrell, Jean-Claude Gagnieux, Henrik Hakansson, Aleksandar Ilic, Christian Jaccard, Mike Kelley, Suzanne Lafont, Hamid Maghraoui, Patrick Nardin, Manuel Ocampo, Bernard Pagès, Walid Raad, Sam Samore, Taroop & Glabel, Patrick Van Caekenbergh, Andy Warhol, Virginie Yassef, Carmelo Zagari...
