CRAC - The Occitanie Regional Art Center of Contemporary Art

Date of creation : 1997
Status : Public institution
Type of organisation : Institution - Art center
In charge : Marie Cozette
The Occitanie Regional Centre of Contemporary Art (CRAC), managed by the Occitanie Région, is registered with the Ministry of Culture and Communications for its operation. It is one of the leading places of contemporary artistic creation and its diffusion in the region. It proposes an annual programme of temporary exhibitions, cultural projects, mediation, education and training, and it edits and co-edits target publications. It allows the entire public to explore current trends in artistic creation. It highlights the junctions between the various disciplines that the culture of today and tomorrow are based on. Open on the Mediterranean, the CRAC follows the artistic and historical, and economic and touristic lines of communication, from North to South and East to West. The international dimension of its project favours multiple partnerships. The programming is based on four exhibitions per year that follow the rhythm of the seasons. There have been 90 exhibitions at the CRAC since 1997, or in other terms, more than 600 artists presented. Visits have been on a constant rise since 1997.
The CRAC&#8216 ;s fundamental mission consists of the conception, production, coproduction and regular presentation of exhibitions. These exhibitions may be monographic or collective, associated with other artistic disciplines, and have an experimental or more classic character. The CRAC also organises shows and events other than exhibitions, both on its premises and externally (concerts, screenings, shows, festivals, literary evenings, symposiums, conferences on artistic topics or societal themes). The CRAC develops and is committed to its actions of raising awareness and training by relying on local partners across the entire Languedoc-Roussillon region, but also by multiplying its collaborations starting with the relations it maintains with the educational services of the art centres, FRACs (Regional Fund for Contemporary Arts), museums and other places of contemporary art.
